As a young military spouse it was hard to find my people. As we moved several times I finally learned that I met most of my people when I was volunteering.
Since then at every base I have tried to find that volunteer opportunity that will help make a difference in our military community, help me grow as individual and to make connects that would last a lifetime.
Two years ago, we were in the middle of a deployment and pregnant, a friend of mine suggested that I sign up for Deployed Love to have holiday photos and surprise my husband.
I wasn’t a fan at first to have photos done without him but I thought the mission of sending a little extra love down range to make his holiday special would be worth it. After I signed up, I had the best experience! When I arrived I looked around and seen all the families there getting photos and it just made my heart burst in tears.
From that moment I knew I had to get involved with this nonprofit organization called Deployed Love. Of course PCS season come and we were off to our new duty station. As soon as I found out they were expanding I had to help bring it to every base possible! I knew that this would be something our military community could benefit from and felt that it would help build our military community locally as well. I felt the importance and need to help bring military spouses together especially during deployments.
It’s hard to find friends at a new base and I love that Deployed love not only offers the free mini sessions to gift our soldiers but also other events to help build relationships among spouses going through the similar events.
We could all use some extra support especially during deployments. I have been blessed to have found my people at each base and lots of support over the years. That is why I joined Deployed Love and hope to bring that same support and sense of purpose to each military base possible.
